To hollow a convertor is illegal. That being said, there really is no reason
to do it unless the element is broken or blocked.
There might be a problem after removing the element. Not with performance,
but with noise. When I did it, the hollow shell acted like an echo chamber.
I had a piece of exhaust tubing welded in place in the shell. You make also
find a 74 1/2 front pipe to use.
The timing might have to be tweaked, but not much.
