Bill
The car is definately a 1600 going by the body number - and probably is in
the following chassis number range 78445 - 79324 - I have no idea what the
engine is although I did find another car on Koen Struijk's site with a
similar engine number. Try doing a tracing of the chassis plate see if that
brings out any of the numbers/letters.
Koen's site is at the following address if you want to do some more research
into the numbers:

Subject: mga identification
> Hi again,
> Sorry to be a bother, but I was wondering if someone with access to mg
production numbers could help me with identification. I recently wrote the
list about a 1500 mga I was contemplating buying (and doing an engine swap
in). Today I purchased the car, but realized it is a 1600, not a 1500. The
grille is gone, and I couldn't tell from the rear plinths (vertical, but no
lenses) - I didn't know at my last viewing to check the front brakes (they
are discs). I'm waiting on my factory shop manual to arrive and am eager to
know just what I've purchased :)

> The chassis number plate on the firewall is grimed over and not legible; I
didn't want to rip up the carpet and floorboards to check the center
chassis crossmember. I do have the body #: (B1 1462), and the engine #:
(15F-N-H 3291). The only thing I have to go on at the moment is the Moss
catalogue, and these numbers don't appear to match up. I assumed the number
15 prefix on the engine number referred to a 1500, but apparently I was
wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill
