I'd say there's a distinct possibility that the crank is gone. Some
years ago the crank on my TD broke in downtown Monterey...clutched in
for a stoplight and suddenly it's like somebody is banging the bottom of
my foot through the clutch. Did a U-turn, drove several miles back to
my home including climbing a steep hill...didn't notice a real loss of
power (as I remember). Prayed through the night. Went outside the next
morning, started it up, clank still there. Shut it down...never ran the
car again...stored it, dismantled it, am just now reassembling
everything and hoping to get the engine rebuilt.
