Hi all,
Here's the situation: in a 76B, I replaced the ZS carb with dual
HIF's. As anyone who has done that knows, it is unlikely that even the
thin K&N air filters will fit as stock because the break booster is in the
way.

So...after 600 miles and no other easier solution, I took one of the
filter inserts and cut it down to fit. When
installed, the rear filter is 1 5/8" thick instead of the stock 2". Now it
may not look pretty when different, but is there any reason other than
aesthetics to shrink the insert of the front one?

My reasoning is this: if airflow is maximally unhindered with both as
is now, then there is no reason to shrink the front one since
the mixtures will remain balanced.

Now, does anyone know if th K&N filters are so well designed that even at
2/3rds thickness, they let through the same amount of air?
