You drive that fast, Nevin? You DO have a point though.
The only accident I ever got in with our 'B' (besides the rear-ender), was a
T-bone to the passenger's side door with my wife in the seat. The only thing
that saved us from personal injury was a quick-thinking avoidance manuever
that put me on the sidewalk.
IMHO, If you see it coming you can avoid it or minimize the damage......no
need to break the steering wheel.
My own humble(?) opinion is that the move from two to three point belts was
probably the single best thing to happen to automotive crash safety, better
than air bags, even.
Sure, they're better than lap belts.......but, admit it, in a serious accident
(over 70 mph) we're goners anyway.
My '66 has no head restraints and no roll bar.

How about to keep your chest from breaking the steering wheel, or to keep

Those Nova crash films sure were more effective than the ones from the
1950's I saw in driver's ed. (No, I'm not that old, but the films were). My
own humble(?) opinion is that the move from two to three point belts was
probably the single best thing to happen to automotive crash safety, better
than air bags, even. (That's a joke, call me a dinosaur, but I've never
owned a car with airbags; I suspect they are named after their inventors).
