Do earlier Mk I seats have a lower seating position than a 1973 B?
I am trying to decide what to do about seating in my '66MGB. I have the
original seats that I was planning on covering in leather. My friend just
bought a '63B with new seat covers, but I don't know if any rebuilding of
the foam/diaphragm was done. His seats have a noticibly (sp?) lower ride
height than my father's '73B. My father did have his seats rebuilt as well
as re-covered.
I've been driving my dad's car a lot while I am trying to put mine
together. As I am not a tall man (5' 5"), I appreciate the higher ride
height. Jim Boyd (of this very list) thinks that the '73s seats were the
best. I like them myself. I would like to hear from those who have
experience with both styles of seats. I am not worried about originality
as this car is going to be my daily classic driver. I am worried about
comfort and visibility.
BTW- a local specialist recommended replacing the 1/4" wood strip that goes
under the seat mounting rails with a 1" strip. Has anyone heard of/done
this?
TIA
