To the list I would add a length of wire. Recently I had a tail pipe break off from the muffler. I had two choices remove the tail pipe(being dressed for work I didn't want to crawl under the car) or drive with the pipe draging and risk doing more damage. I was lucky a guy came along and had a bungi cord and fastened it up for me.I agree that if the car is in shape you can leave most things at home. But...when you're going on a long trip why tempt fate.
