Cleaning rubber bumpers

As I remember, about six months ago the question of how to clean up weathered 
rubber bumpers came up.

Someone had a procedure that involved wet sanding with 600 grit paper, but I 
don't remember the details.  Does anyone have that procedure saved?  Could I 
have a copy?  I'd also appreciate testimonials from someone who has done this 
procedure successfully.
