John, its true that in the reverse direction the PCV stops flashback from going down into the engine insides, but in the forward direction, the pcv meters down or restricts the flow of nasty vapors (and some atomized oil) from the engine into the intake manifold. Not sure of your year, but please read the pcv files in the archives, there is a wealth of info presented there in a very readable manner, and a lot more than you will get from any of the manuals.
