Right in 1... the #1 piston has broken rings, and the lands (??) where 
the rings sit have broken for about 2 inches.  Restated: the part that 
separates #1 compression ring from #2 compression ring has blown off (in 
what looks like a series of events) for a length of 2" or so.  The rest 
of the piston looks fine.

Oddly enough, the cylinder wall looks nice too!
