I feel your pain Mayf. I have been searching for an inexpensive absorption
brake for years. I have checked them all and your operative word "cheap"
just ain't out here. Stutska, Superflow, Dayton, Go-Power (remember them?)
and many more that I have forgotten all want to sell complete "systems". You
can buy the brake separately but the single item price could be $3k-$8K. As
a result I have been thinking of alternatives that may work. One of them
Neil mentioned. A standard Torque converter with "in" and "out" valves,
added to control water flow, is intriguing.

A friend and I have actually called and talked to these folks because it
looked like their brake may be viable.

absorber is a nice unit. However, the costs also were also out of the ball
park.
