Ok, my 2 bits worth. What benefits are to gain from TC other than not
smoking a set or drive tires by overspin? It does not affect top speed at
all. Only the time to get to top speed. And that seems to be well in hand
because of th elength of the course. TC is of course very beneficial to
those road race cars which must accelerate a zillion times a lap and that
helps them to reduce the lap times. But top speed comes when the tire and
ground make contact at zero relative speed. TC doesn't help this. In fact TC
may indeed slow you down by either removing power or adding braking to a
wheel.
I am neither for or again it. The dollar argument in that it is expensive
doesn't cut it with me because look at some of the high value racers, the
300 mph door slammer...how much did that cost? Or Bank's Dodge truck? Big
bucks here. So were are already into racing costing a lot of money if you
want to set records.
Is there a thought to having a trial case? I mean what if one of the regular
cars was equiped with a system that could be turned on and off. Then we
could make a run with and without to see if top speed is affected. If top
speed is not affected then the rules committee and the members at large
could evaluate whether or not to permit it. Or maybe permit it only at
B'ville because this is a no points evernt.
Dave, how much would a system cost to implement it like I said above? Dan,
would you all let it have a fair test? Seems like a good thing to me... Then
we could bitch about something else :^}
