Jack, Malcolm & List

Back in the early 1990s SCTA/BNI started the LSA (Land Speed Authority) to
get the recognition land speed racers deserved. They applied to ACCUS I
believe through NHRA. This was turned down by ACCUS and they basically told
us they had no interest in us. There were a few others that shut the door in
our face along the way. LSA only lasted a few years and is presently under
the ownership of Jack Dolan. IT is idle as far as I know.

The events run at Bonneville under FIA are current as are the same rules and
requirements for the Bonneville International records. Both are run at the
same time on the same course for these records. The normal BNI records are
also run on the the same course but the standard course as at speedweek.
(The FIA course allows more room to accelerate then the BNI course.)

I don't see anything in the near future to change SCTA / BNI or the FIA
position as to who is the real landspeed record authority.

As I stated earlier BNI record certifications are being readied to be sent
to the people that have achieved international records at our events.

The above are my personal words and not those of SCTA / BNI. I just want to
set record straight as to how things have happened over the years. I have
asked on several occasions through the FIA stewards sent to over see the
record runs why we or someone in the BNI can become a FIA Certified steward
and to keep some of the costs down to a reality. They are presently
furnished through the SCCA and everytime we get new people that have never
been to a LSR event. We train them, use our certified timers and equipment
and do the paperwork that they copy onto theirs. Sometime later the racer
gets a certificate .

Just the way it is folks.
Glen
