I did the outside magnet trick a while ago, the dipstic broke in my small block chevy engine and i did want to remove the oil pan at that moment, so, i grabbed the magnet form an old speaker,stick it to the bottom side of the oil pan and added some duct tape to be sure it will stay there, Two months later when i serviced my engine, i left the magnet attached to the oil pan and removed the oil pan, the dipstic was there so was a bit of iron dust too.... It wasn`;t pretty but it worked very well Denis |
