Chris,
We use a remote filter mount with a canister filter on our Pro-Cup car.  We 
use an inline filter to strain the oil before it runs back to the crank.  The 
remote canister housing is available through many speed shops, we got ours 
from CV Products here in NC.  I'm not an expert on these systems, but ours 
works well.  Our canister housing has -12's on it and the strainer takes 
-16's.
