Tom
I too have many of the old magazines that get pulled out of the treasure
chest to re-read. I guess I'm lucky to have been a part of it and can relate
to the many cars only a few get to see run. The trivia questions tend to tax
ones memory with out going into the personal archives. I do this quite often
helping someone look up something from the past. There are several of us on
the west coast that collect anything on the lakes nd Bonneville. We do call
each other for help in this area. Tom, protect those treasures, they are
hard to come by.

Subject: Divorce, Treasure and a Great Day!
Once upon a time there was a Hot Rod enthusiast who decided to get a
divorce.........he gave up a lot of things that he had saved over the years,
to me. Jump 20 years into the future, today.
Having a great day today!!! Spent about two minutes in the attic and
retrieved about 100 issues of Rod & Custom, Rod Action, Street Rodder &
Street Rod magazines from 1963 to 1975. Folks let me tell you they don't
make them like they used to. I scanned them for articles on Bonneville and
found plenty. Ended up with about 20 magazines with coverage of the
Bonneville Nationals. This is fantastic!! Pictures of Breedloves car
(Spirit of America) without rear vertical fin, ran almost 300 mph. A
corvair LSR car!!!! Nolan White, Markley Brothers, Vesco, Knot Farrington,
Art Arfons, Ernie Immerso. The list goes on and on.
I don't know why I remembered having the magazines, but am glad I did. Sad
thing is that the attic is not the best place to store magazines. They are
in good shape but a little fragile. If you got stuff like this in the
attic, find a better place.
Some interesting stories covered....1970 How Short can the Long Course Be?
Talks about the salt getting thin. 1974, Long Black Line to Yesterday,
Bonneville remembered. How Bonneville got started. 1966, So You Wanna to
Run on The Salt, by Tex Smith. 1967, The Slippery Ones at Bonneville. An
article on the #400 Studebaker and how Studebakers will be on the salt
forever. 1972, Crocker the Clocker, an article about J. Otto Crocker.
Trivia
Who owned and ran the "Beast V" in 1954?
What was the name of the car built by "The College of the Redwoods"?
Number 88, an Olds powered Astra belonged to who?
Who owned/ran/operated the number 76 roadster in '73?
D Streamliner, twin tank, 182 blown Chevy, #666 belonged to who?
This one is for Mayf, #157 Sunbeam Tiger ran 148 mph belonged to who?
Hope you all enjoyed this glimpse of the past, I hope it brought back some
good memories, and I hope it generates a smile and thoughts of the future.
Regards, Tom
