Another question for the panel=85=85

I was digging for something in one of my boxes of =93useful bits=94 the oth=
er day =96 we=92ve all got such boxes?? =96 and, at the bottom languishing =
undisturbed for 25+ years, I found this mainshaft. (AEC 3486).

Looking at my parts book it would fit a MkII, centre shift, with or without=
OD. Not sure about later cars.

I=92ve no idea how it wound up in my workshop; it=92s never been in my MkII=
, that=92s for sure. And =96 touch wood =96 I have no need of another mains=
haft.

Now, it=92s damaged with fairly significant damage to the first 20mm of the=
 splines. See pics.

I=92m wondering=85.. Is it worth keeping? Would it work or would it just wr=
eck a perfectly good gearbox? Could it be fixed at a worthwhile price?

Or is it scrap? (I have a nephew-in-law(?) who is a talented blacksmith who=
could probably turn it into something or other!!)

To keep things in more venial perspective, these things cost =A3522:00 plus=
 P&P from AHSpares=85=85..

Simon
