This is a Side Shift main shaft, not a Center Shift. The front bearing =
surface on the Center shift box is shorter.
It could be usable in a pinch I would not recommend destroying it.

Another question for the panel=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6
I was digging for something in one of my boxes of =E2=80=9Cuseful =
bits=E2=80=9D the other day =E2=80=93 we=E2=80=99ve all got such boxes?? =
=E2=80=93 and, at the bottom languishing undisturbed for 25+ years, I =
found this mainshaft. (AEC 3486).
Looking at my parts book it would fit a MkII, centre shift, with or =
without OD. Not sure about later cars.
I=E2=80=99ve no idea how it wound up in my workshop; it=E2=80=99s never =
been in my MkII, that=E2=80=99s for sure. And =E2=80=93 touch wood =
=E2=80=93 I have no need of another mainshaft.
=20
Now, it=E2=80=99s damaged with fairly significant damage to the first =
20mm of the splines. See pics.
I=E2=80=99m wondering=E2=80=A6.. Is it worth keeping? Would it work or =
would it just wreck a perfectly good gearbox? Could it be fixed at a =
worthwhile price?=20
Or is it scrap? (I have a nephew-in-law(?) who is a talented blacksmith =
who could probably turn it into something or other!!)
To keep things in more venial perspective, these things cost =
=C2=A3522:00 plus P&P from AHSpares=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6..
