Resettable circuit breakers are common in marine starting systems but they
require manual resets. The original poster seemed to have been describing
a situation where something was tripping and then automatically resetting,
akin to a light-duty thermal breaker, which I have never seen in a car.

I've seen a few discussions over the years by people wondering if
there was a way to put a circuit breaker on the starter circuit.
Maybe someone fitted a CB, or a fuse, along the long cable run from
the battery to the starter, under the car? A fuse would be easiest
but, of course, you'd have to replace it every time you had a short=

Bob-there is nothing else under the dash on Healeys. There is no
ballast resistor which would affect starting. If the starter is
bad, it created a direct short to the batteries and by lifting the
Positive ground cable it relived the short. The only other
interruption in the line between the batteries and the starter is
the shut-off switch, which you eliminated. Hank<br>
