We want to remove the side plate on a spare BN1 gearbox to check the condition
of its internals. According to the Workshop Manual, section F/3, "Dismantling
the gearbox," to remove the lever from the shaft we merely "remove nut and
washer, tap out the pin...."
Hah!!!! Nut and washer came right off; the pin has resisted tapping,
whacking, pressure from a jury-rigged C-clamp/nut press, heating with a
propane torch and then repeating all of the above. What do we try next???
