A couple of people have posted to the list about what the advantages or
purposes of a national club or clubs are. One thing I do not recall being
mentioned is insurance. I believe our chapter of the Austin Healey Club of
America (the Flatwater Austin Healey Club) benefits from the national club's
insurance, so if someone is injured or liability is otherwise incurred at a
local club event there is an insurance policy to protect the local club and
club members from individual liability.
I am not sure if this has any bearing on pros and cons of the merging of
clubs, but it is a very important bonus to being affiliated with a national
club, as I am sure getting insurance for a local chapter would be expensive
and maybe difficult to obtain as well.
