The automatic MGB was a factory delivered option. If my memory is right
they used the Borg Warner 35 which was used in a zillion other cars. My
memory also tells me that the auto B wasn't that popular and that most
were sold here in Australia.
I recently met a bloke who drove one as his everyday car. He was in his
50s and had been a quadriplegic from when he was 17 and had recently
fitted power steering to the car. (He could still drive and a fold-up
wheelchair fits in the boot of a B)
As far as Austin-Healeys go I wouldn't be surprised if some experiments
were undertaken with automatics. In fact when DMH was in Australia in
1977 I asked him about my BN3 and he asked back if I meant the manual or
automatic car. I didn't get a chance to ask further.
There was of course the automatic 4000.

We have a member of our local British Sports Car Club who has a 1971 MGB
with an automatic transmission. She wears a prosthetic leg device
because of a child hood injury and was able to special order this car. I
had never heard of an automatic MGB before. Was this really a factory
option or some aftermarket conversion?
