non-controversial...  Got anything bad to say about the Pope? Puppies? Baby

I do think previous threads did point out the gawker drawback, But having been
a few places, I'd put the scenery in the top 7 or eight...  I would grant you
however, that if you really want to flog the car down the road, there are a
lot better places.
Well, at least you are a native.... so maybe the Nomex suit will be
enough....

  This is blasphemy, but except for a couple of stretches (Marin to Bodega
Bay,
  around Big Sur) I think the PCH is overrated.  Half the view is (flat)
water,
  and you're almost always stuck behind some terrified and/or rubbernecking
  tourist.  There are a few inland roads off the PCH that are nice, however.

  Once we were travelling through there, and one of the small towns on the
  route (forget the name) asked us to be in their parade.  Couple people came
  up and told us they were voting for us for "Best in Show."  That was fun.

  The Columbia River Gorge, OTOH, has some varied and interesting
  scenery.
