When I was doing the Intermountain Vintage Racing events out at Wendover
we'd occasionally get some of the serious Utah SCCA racers showing up.
Usually it was because they had done some changes to their car and just
wanted
a chance to do some tuning, get a feel for the change, whatever. Sometimes
they'd run in the wheel to wheel group, sometimes the 'Touring' group.
Touring
was just 2 - 3 cars on the course at a time, safely spaced, limited
passing and such.
In most cases these hot shoes would go out and zip around, checking out what
they needed to check out like sway bar settings, camber, and so on. What
always amused me was that that the first lap or two was uneventful, but it
didn't take long for these guys to see another car a ways ahead of
them, and they'd go into full chat mode.
Sure, they pulled onto the track with the intention of taking it easy, but
when it came down to it they were RACING!
