When I restored "TRusty" back in 1987 to 1990, I put in all new rubber seals
and hoses. Then I put in Dot 5 "purple" silicone fluid that I buy from
Roadster Factory or any Harley Davidson outlet. I use my TR3A as a high
speed touring car. 7220 miles to VTR in Portland Oregon and back in 2000.
In 2001, 5220 miles all told to VTR in Colorado. I never had a problem with
the silicone fluid in over 78,000 miles since 1990. Except that when I got
up to 12,095 ft altitude crossing the Estes Pass, the mini air bubbles in
the fluid became larger and with the help of Bob Palmer from Akron, Ohio, we
bled the lines and all was good again. I think silicone fluid is the way to
go.
Thus endeth the first lesson.
I leave tomorrow from home (Montreal) to drive to ViR for the TR races, then
from Virginia to the TRA National Meet in Springfield, Ohio 2 weeks later.
That should add about another 3,000 miles (or more) to the old beast.
Now you know the rest of the story.
