I talked to a Moss rep about lifters yesterday. There are evidently 2 companies in the world making lifters for the TR2-4 engines. One problem Moss is having is trying to find a factory spec for lifter hardness. They have found a British auto industry spec that says 45 is an acceptable level of hardness, and MG specified a rockwell hardness of 45 for their lifters. Evidently a lifter common failure mode is flaking caused by too much surface hardening of the lifter. They seem to be inclined to specify a minumim harness of 45 and have no idea of a set max hardness. If anyone has any REAL factory data on hardness specs for TR lifters Moss would love to get a copy. THey want to know how hard is enough for good reliability and where hardness might start causing flaking under use.
