Hi all!
Jim has it right on the Accusump. I have one on Tris. It is a metal
canister with an air bladder in the rear. You open it while the car is
running, to build pressure, and close it when it has built up. Then,
before you start the next time, you open the valve and pre-oil the
engine. It will also boost oil pressure in the event of something major
happening, and can save the engine, or more of the engine than would be
if no Accusump were installed.
I also have (had) a deep sump with baffles on Tris (not currently on the
"learner" engine). It has a plate welded onto it that wraps from the
front around the bottom to protect the pan. I definitely see the
reasoning for it -- more oil should stay cooler. I also have (had) an
oil cooler on him -- 18-row, I think. I will reinstall it and the deep
sump when the real race engine is developed and installed.
