Ummmm...there were loose bolts on the valve cover, or.......????? Even so, the 
odds of anything falling into the spark plug holes...... 

Was your helper that day named Murphy?

That's how my motor ate a bolt. If you do this you should tape over the 
sparkplug holes or find some other way to keep things from falling in the 
cylinder.

"One trick is to remove the spark plugs to reduce the loads on the bearings, 
and turn the engine by hand to see if it is free. If it isn't, work it around, 
possibly putting a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder. 

Then crank it with the starter, but still without plugs."
