Just curious as to whether it has to be dead-straight? If so then a more exact
fix would be to take it to a machine shop to straighten?

Just bend it back. That's what I did after a curb incursion some 15 years
ago. It's been fine since and I'll be mine was bent more. It was kind of V
shaped after that incident.
