Okay, I'm not much on particular cars, but the Volvo caliper thing got me
thinking. As it turns out, TRW looks to be the original manufacturer of the
lower ball-joints on the 1968(~61-72) Volvo P-1800. There was a thread on the
I-net (searched through Google) that indicated that TRW would never make these
parts again, blah, blah, blah...
I coupled this with the information (and the fact I purchased the manifold
splitter) for the Volvo brake conversion (about the same year) and came up with
a site (speedycarparts.com) that sells the replacement lower ball-joint for the
P1800 for about $72.00. I looked at the part and - I know most ball-joints
look similar, are these parts interchangable as well? I'm sure there were many
more Volvo's made than our Roadsters, but knowing the Japanese "borrowed"
designs wherever possible (U20 - Mercedes-Benz, SU's, etc.) is it possible they
borrowed the lower ball-joint designs from someone else as well?
There was also a picture posted here yesterday that was of that saem part.
If I'm way off base here, just let me know, but if anyone has one of these
Volvo lower-ball joint's on hand (or can get their hands on one), is it
possible to check the design/measurements? These ball joints looked to be
plentiful (an Italian and German manufacturer were listed on the site where I
saw the picture).
