Hi Mike,
I totally hear you. Thing is, is that I believe that the engine is
in great shape with less than 30,000 miles on a good rebuild. All that
stuff should not need looking at. And as Greg says this car has morphed
into our nice weather fun-trip only car (yay truck yay civic) and I do not
put a lot of miles on it anyways. The cam and lifters are practically new
also. And unfortunately I do not have the spare funds to do that.. not even
close.. hell I have to sell a motorcycle just fix the recent damage.

As long as you have the head and manifolds already removed and the cylinder
walls are in good shape, why not take advantage of the situation, pull the
engine and throw in some new bearings and rings? If you don't require
extensive machining (oversizing, etc.), polish the crank, hone or the
deglaze the cylinders, replace that miserable rear seal, and voila, for a
small amount of cash your lower end is re-built along with your head.
