As long as you have the head and manifolds already removed and the cylinder walls are in good shape, why not take advantage of the situation, pull the engine and throw in some new bearings and rings? If you don't require extensive machining (oversizing, etc.), polish the crank, hone or the deglaze the cylinders, replace that miserable rear seal, and voila, for a small amount of cash your lower end is re-built along with your head.
