Yes, Victor was right, I tried Honda CRX seats, which measure exactly the same
as roadster seats, but since they are so firm I ended up ~1.5" taller in the
car, and drove around for about 18 months looking like a performing bear at the
circus. Vision was terribly unsafe, mirrors non-functional, I won't go on.
The CRX seats were similar to the Miata (bump in bottom lower than rails). I
removed everything from underneath save a thin (.100) rubber floor mat, didn't
help much. (although I have some of that material if ya wanna try some) I
would not recommend cutting the bottom of the seat, it won't be water/moisture
proof anymore, and the foam will start extruding thru the hole, a big mess.
Bolt straight to the floor would be a good option, and if anyone smaller wants
to drive it put a cushion behind them. If they are taller tell them to recline
the seat and stand harder on the GO-pedal and stop complaining!
I know Buzz Bowerman from Modesto (right?) lowered the floor in his roadster,
but he notched the X-member, which is kind of a big job. 'Course if you have
seen Bud's cars, he does big jobs and he does 'em beautiful.
