You can't put a 30A fuse inline between the GM alternator and the
battery. The alternator can produce 60+ amps so will blow that fuse.
As for why it's not producing now, you might not have "excited" the
built-in voltage regulator, or you may have damaged it (not likely if
you just blew the fuse).
