I certainly agree with Mike on this one. I've been driving and tuning my '70 2000 for over 30 years. I've actually had to idle at 700 but it's garbage. Loads up and stumbles badly when throttle is applied. 900 had been my idle point for all these years. As to the trouble, it could be ignition. Find someone with a scope and see exactly what your ignition is doing.
