On the digest version... so someone most likely
answered this one:
Does your '68 have a glass fuel filter? After sitting
the top gasket in the filter dries out. As the fuel
pump tries to suck in fuel, it just pulls air. Trick
is to remove the glass bowl and soak the cork gasket
in a pan of water to swell up. Once the engine is
running, and gas reaches the gasket it will keep it
sealed.
One of my odd ball little tricks to get everything
work. Take an air compressor and set to 5 psi. Seal
the gas thank filler with plastic and a tennis ball.
Remove the RETURN LINE off the rear carb ('68-'70
USA). Pressurize that line... fuel will be forced out
the gas line. You should see the filter filling up.
Floats will fill up. Pretty easy to start. 5 psi is
the MAXIMUM you want to do this with. Outside please!
While I am thinking of it... if any of you have a
GLASS BULB drop light. Please cut off the cord and
drop in the nearest trash bin. Buy a floresent drop
light (15W). Gas dripping onto it will not shatter a
bulb and burn down a house!
