On the distributor... the two different springs, and
different advance cam slots, allow for two differing
advance curves.
In the case of the the old "y = mx + b".... m = spring
rate, b = slot
The advance curve is not linear, but really two
intersecting lines. By using a weaker spring (which
has a fast advance rate) and a SHORTER SLOT, then a
heavier advance spring with a longer slot... the curve
ends up with a "knee" where the lines cross over.
