I did some mucking around on my '65 re wheels, before I stripped it
down.
The rear can tolerate a much wider and less positive offset, ie.
approaching zero, than the front.
Depending on the rim diam. the front can take a rim width of 6" and an
offset of 35-37mm.
This translates to a backspace number of ~110mm (4.33" or 43/8")
The problem, as I saw it, was that a 14" rim inner circumference
rubbed on the upper "A" arm at full lock with any offset greater than
37mm.
Moving up to a 15" rim the above problem was not evident, but at full
lock there would still be a likelyhood of the tyre rubbing on the
front sway bar.
The bottom line is that the car, to put max. rubber on the road
without bending fender lips etc. requires two different rim offsets
front to rear.
I'm not suggesting that is the way to go, just the conclusion I came
to.
In Australia we have a rim Made by Performanc Wheel Co. called the
Superlite which is very similar to the Panasports you guys see in the
States.
Perfomance appreciate the nostalgic value of this design, and will
produce the wheel in any offset & stud pattern the customer requires.
My final choice will probably be 15 x 6" Superlites with +35mm offset
and 195/50 Yokohama A539 tyres giving an overall diam. of 578mm.
Maybe.

>ok, I'm confused. do you want positive offset on wheels on a the
rear of a

roadster? I thought positive offset meant that the tire would be
closer to
the center of the car, by, in this case, 20 to 25 mm. with the
already
narrow rear track, don't you want to have negative offset wheels? if
you
use
positive offset wheels, is there chance of rubbing the leaf springs?

There's more leeway toward the spring than the fender. The ZX wheels
your
running are +15. if they were 0's you'd have to flare or raise the
rear or
both. But your right in the fact that our track is too narrow. The
main
problem is getting enough tire under the car, track width be dammed.
BRE
developed the "Squirelies" springs (springs with cut-out's for tire
clearance) to get wider wheels without flaring (not legal at the
time). a
7'' wheel +25mm is going to be cutting it fine no matter what. your
pretty
much squeezing the limits of the stock capabilities. It's kind of
tough to
be sure without actually having the wheel/tire on-hand to try, before
you
buy.

Steve, is the black 67.5 body in the shop yet? nudge, nudge.
