The biggest difference I have found is that the bolt head is usually one wrench
size larger on the hardware store bolts. For example, a bolt with 8mm thread
would use a 12mm wrench for the automotive bolt and a 13mm wrench for the
hardware bolt. You'll commonly find this mixture on manifold nuts.
