I have removed several Ujoints by using a chisel, not to cut, but to
seperate and enlarge the clamp and allowing the shaft to be seperated. I
used the chisel like a wedge. I have also used pickle forks to do the same
thing.
When reinstalling everything use plenty of lubricant and antiseize on the
splines. I did this when I restored my car many years ago and when I
recently replaced my steering column everything seperated nicely.
