In the Honsowetz engine book he recommends lightly oiling the threads and
bearing surfaces of the head bolt washers and under side of the head bolt's
shank. He also says antiseize can be used on the underside of the headbolt
shank. I have always installed mine dry. One thing to note is that if you
do oil the threads the coating needs to be light. Also make sure that there
is no oil or other fluid in the bolt holes. Oil is not compressible so if
you have enough oil in a bolt hole that the bolt contacts the oil, the bolt
then begins to compress the oil and can cause cracks in the block as a
result.
