I wouldn't be too disheartened yet. The sounds identical to the problem I
ran into on my 2L rebuild. The culprit--the rear main rope seal. You may
try untorquing and removing the rear main and see if the problem goes away.
I believe there is a great FAQ out there somewhere on proper installation.
