Hi Steve:
Congrats on the new baby - what fun, huh? I had the same
questions about fuel mixture as you, and similar perplexing
results. No real consensus emerged from the list, so I just
kinda fiddled with it.
What I found is this - it doesn't seem to matter too much with
these cars. It's been a while since I did the 1600 I used to
have, but as I recall, you can pretty much put the mixture
anywhere you want. Baseline spec from the manual is somewhere
around two turns out, but I found that all the way in or
three-plus turns out didn't make a heckuva lot of difference.
As my 2000 sits, it's about 1 turn out or so, though Mike Young
did some kinda laying on of hands when I was out there - dunno
what he did, but it idles pretty decent now, so I'm leaving well
enough alone.
