This is possible,
But BMW also "borrowed" the design of their synchros from Porsche for
a while, then switched over to the toothed Borg Warner style. (they also
borrowed the TR4A rear end, just like the 510) The BMW 1600's and
2000's didn't survive emissions in 1968 (and became the 2002). While
the 2002 trannies are similar in design to the B-W style Datsun, they're
different dimensionally.
Amusingly, the 2nd gear synchro is fine on the roadster, but craaaaap
on the 2002. So I sometimes double-clutch when downshifting, but I have
to stutter-clutch on the upshift <GRIN!>
Also different are the Porsche synchros, which is a shame since the
Porsche parts are 1/3 the cost of Nissan! Whoda thunk? Us, with a more
rare, more EXCLUSIVE and more expensive car than a Porsche. Wow. Now
if the 1600 would just GO like a 911 SC...
