Well, you get what you pay for! I've had, hmm, two cars painted
at Maaco, but I prepped and primed both of them, as well as
removed 90% of the trim. The charge to shoot the car was about
$300, but no jambs, hood, trunk.
Discount paint shops will not prep the car as well as a high-end
shop. For that reason, I'd suggest that you either prep the car
yourself (fairly easy and rewarding to do) or pony up the big
money.
A complete Maaco job will probably start to bubble and peel
within a couple years; you can get a lot more life out of it if
you do your own prep, but beware - take it slow and don't leave
anything "good enough", 'cuz it'll be back to haunt you...
