Valve Settings

Just got my 1600 back from the shop installing a new head.  The question I 
have is the manual shows valve clearance at 0.43 mm (0.0169 in), however the 
guy I have working on it says that this is too loose and you can hear a 
couple of the valves tapping.  So what should the setting valve clearance be 
for performance  (he says that on a lot of vehicles this is usually a 
different setting than the factory setting)

Any thoughts on this ??
