Valve trains are a complex topic. To be overly simplistic:
Too loose and you lose performance and get a noisy valve train.
Too tight and you pick up a bit of performance (because the valves open
sooner and wider) but end up frying the valves because you cut down
their ability to cool (they cool when sitting on their seats). If you want
decent performance and long life, IMHO use the factory settings.

If you have a noisy valve at factory specs, there's something amiss
(sorry, couldn't resist). Check the valve tip and rocker arm for wear.
I had a noisy valve that turned out to be a cracked valve guide once.
