Another "almost too simple" fix is to check the positive battery cable to
the starter and make sure it isn't gounding to the block. If not routed
correctly the cable can rub on the block and wear out the insulation. I
caught mine just before it rubbed through!

Almost too simple, but I have had those symptoms more than once, from a
bad connection at the battery positive terminal. Even had a service
call, jump start, on one occasion.
With the hood open, the last time it happened I could see a wisp of
smoke rising from that terminal after the solenoid clicked in.
Then I fixed it good!
Hope the solution to your problem is that simple...
