Hello all, it's been a while since I've been on the list,
and worked on my project, but now with my daughter
graduating college it's time to get back to some serious
work on the "B".
QUESTION FOR THE GROUP:
Does anyone know if the BUICK 300 Heads will
work with the 215 block bored just .030" over stock?
>From all the information I've seen, the use of these heads
appear only when the block is bored to the point of requiring
resleeving. (Which I am trying to avoid)
My concern is that the valves on the 300 heads will not
clear the deck of of the .030" over stock block.
Right now I am completing the disassembly of the Olds 215 so
I will try the head on the bare block to verify if there is a
clearance problem, But I am also interested if anyone in the
group already has experience with this and if so, what are the
issues if any? Here is what I would like to do to my engine...
I am planing the engine with the Buick 300 crank, stock rods,
Ford pistons to fit the .030 over bore, Buick 300 heads(if they fit)
(Pistons will be dished slightly to yield a 10:1
compression with the 300 heads)
Crane cam Part No. 900571 Grind No. H-218-280/2S-12,
modified oil passages, pickup and Heavy duty pump.
(Per the recommendations in the 1985 Hot Rod Mag. article on this
266 c.i. engine.) Also a late model front cover from a Buick V6,
Shorter water pump housing and a better angle on the oil filter.
Presently has stock Olds' 4 bbl intake with a holley 390 cfm carb.
Any comments and recommendations will be appreciated from this
group of "experts" regarding use of the 300 heads vs the stock
215 heads on my 266 CI engine.
