Ok, I'll bite, how do you know ? Can you point to just one study that took a
random collection of real world accidents, and recreated them with precision
showing the effects of both wearing and not wearing a seat belt ? All the
studies I've seen are either anecdotal evidence that seems suspect, or done with
cars hitting a "brick wall" head-on. Anyone who deliberately drives into a
brick wall deserves what they get.
I've been involved in a moderate number of accidents in my life, including two
where the car I was in was totaled. The ONLY one where seat belts were a
factor, I was uninjured because I was NOT wearing a belt (slid across the bench
seat as the door wound up where I had been sitting).
I also personally know several people who survived "fatal" accidents, arguably
because they were not wearing their belts. No one of my acquaintance has ever
been killed because they weren't wearing a belt.
Sure, I know lots of people who claim seat belts saved their lives. But they
don't know for sure what would have happened without a belt. Might be, without
wearing their "magic armor", they might have been just a bit more pro-active
about avoiding an accident !
